Receiving a college athletic offer is exciting. It represents an opportunity you have likely worked hard to earn.
But before immediately saying yes, take a step back.
A college offer is not just something to celebrate — it is also an opportunity to evaluate whether the school, athletic program, and overall college experience are the right fit for you.
Consider questions such as:
- What role does the coach see you playing?
- What could your first year realistically look like?
- What is the team culture like?
- Can you pursue your intended major?
- What does the complete financial picture look like?
- What is the time commitment outside of competition?
If possible, talk with current athletes and visit the campus before making a major decision.

Quick Tip
Don’t let the excitement of receiving an offer pressure you into making a decision before you have the information you need.
The goal of the college recruiting process isn’t simply to receive an offer. The goal is to find the right opportunity for you.
